Solidarity-Based Pricing at Juicy Lab 2025

Asking the same price of  everyone may seem fair – but is deeply rooted in capitalist logic. When we acknowledge the vast differences in income and wealth, as well as the systemic conditions that created them, this kind of “fairness” leaves a bitter taste. Is it truly fair that a loaf of bread costs the same for everyone? Wouldn’t it be more just if some received it for free while others paid significantly more?

At Juicy Lab, where we explore connection, contact, and community, we also need to talk about money – and its influence on all of these aspects.

In capitalism, money is a central axis of power, and resources are distributed extremely unequally. Our goal is not to reproduce this inequality, but to actively walk a more solidaric path.

What is a Bidding Round?

A bidding round is a collective process in which the total cost of the event is transparently shared, and each person contributes based on what they can truly afford. Some pay significantly more than average, others far less – this is how we carry the costs together.

There is no fixed price – we bid until the total costs are covered. To keep this process manageable for our organizing team, we’ve opted for a partial bidding round this year. This means that a large portion of the budget is already covered in advance through a set deposit.

Solidarity exists on multiple levels:

Solidarity with all those who bid – and do so depending on their financial situation and privileges.

Solidarity towards the organizers (the orga work, the facilitators etc.) to counteract exploitation (which is really common in this sector. Sadly).

Solidarity with people who do not have the privilege of being part of Juicy Labs and where we make a contribution through redistribution.

We know: Money is a sensitive topic. That’s why we invite you to enter the bidding round with curiosity and an open mind – not as an obligation, but as an opportunity to create a more sustainable, inclusive event together.

Juicy Lab 2025 – Cost Overview

These are the costs that shape the ticket price you are invited to contribute this year to journey into Juicy Land:

1️⃣ Location – €14,000

2️⃣ Juicy Structures – This includes things like materials & equipment, bookkeeping, workshop materials, meals for the crew and facilitators, sauna, etc. – €13,659

3️⃣ Compensations: Organizational Care Work & Facilitator Stipends
We’re working with “bread and cake” prices here.
The lower amount is the bare minimum – below that, the work that goes into organizing Juicy Lab or facilitating workshops would feel exploitative. The upper amount is fuller and closer to what really feels fair*
: €9,700 – €15,300

4️⃣ Food – €190 per person

Total estimated costs: ~€37,659
PLUS €190 per person for food

* A note on Compensations:

Over a period of three quarters of a year, 3-6 people are continuously involved.

This continuous care work is the basis for the Juicy Lab being able to take place at all. Our wish is to create awareness and appreciation for this care and work of the organizers and cultural workers and to move towards fairer compensation

Date & Location

Thursday, 4.9.2025 – Tuesday 9.9.2025

Our event location:

The FARM is a picturesque, historic 4-sided farm in the south of Berlin (easily accessible by S-Bahn) with a large garden, a huge culture barn, various converted, atmospheric seminar rooms and a sauna with chill-out space and cosy rooms.

We also have an outdoor kitchen where we cater for our physical well-being.

There are several van parking spaces, ample parking facilities and a large garden that can be used as a chill-out and camping area. If you prefer to spend the night inside, there are shared rooms of various sizes (single/double, dorm, dormitory) to sleep in.

If you want, you can also enjoy being naked outside on the site, which is well screened off and we are the only group there. The neighbouring forest area is beautiful and invites you to take a walk and relax in nature.

The owners/community of the location live there themselves. We will remain in local consultation about what is needed for the community and neighbourhood.

Barriers:

The site is not wheelchair accessible – workshop rooms and indoor accommodation are only accessible via stairs.

The event will be held in English & German spoken language.

The event is not family friendly, children and pets must stay at home.

Volunteers @ Juicy Lab

At Juicy Lab 2025, we won’t offer traditional ‘helper tickets’.

Instead, we see the tasks involved as part of community care. If possible, everyone will take on a small task (e.g. helping with chopping in the kitchen, cleaning, looking after the sauna, supporting facilitators, helping with set-up and strike).

On arrival, we ask you to sign in on the lists provided. Help with set-up and strike will be asked for when you register online so that we can plan more easily.

We believe that community is created when everyone lends a hand. At the same time, for some people the Juicy Lab can also be a necessary space for retreat and recovery. Both are allowed.

If you need the Juicy Lab more as a retreat, you can free yourself from shifts and contribute more to the bidding round if necessary.

It is important for us to emphasise: Your bidding round contribution and your help do not have to be linked – but they can be.
